Can CBD Oil Help with Inflammation?

Over the past decade, we have seen a huge increase in the use of CBD oil to help treat common ailments and chronic inflammation and joint pains. One of the most common uses is CBD oil for inflammation. This is because these oils get to the root cause of the inflammation instead of just killing off the pain.

CBD Oil For Pain

With the legalization of marijuana and hemp in many states around the country and the growing societal acceptance of it, CBD oil is becoming one of the most common pain killers. A 2017 study found that 52% of people who suffer from joint pain and inflammation turn to it for pain relief. It is available in several different forms such as edibles and pills but the most common form is oil.

Also, it provides all the pros of THC extract without the cons. Users can experience the same number of health benefits without the “stoned” feeling one might get with THC.

Is CBD Oil Anti-Inflammatory?

Over the past several years, scientists have been taken to task to find out if it can truly help those experiencing inflammation and chronic pain. A 2015 review found that it can reduce inflammation through several different pathways. The conclusion was that it is an effective potential treatment for a range of inflammation conditions.

It is important to note that the large majority of studies have been pre-clinical. So while almost every study points to it having a positive impact on those who use it, more human trials are needed for us to better understand how it works.

Does CBD Oil Treat Inflammation?

CBD can be used to treat inflammation and chronic joint pains. It can also help prevent acute inflammation. Acute inflammation is your body’s healthy response to something damaging. After an injury, infection or illness, your immune system sends immune cells to the affected area to protect it, causing redness and swelling.

The use of these oils can help prevent redness and swelling and the pain accompanied by it. Applying it directly to the area helps reduce the amount of swelling that takes place. By being proactive and reducing the chances of swelling, you won’t feel the pain and irritation you typically feel after an injury or illness.

1. Inflammation of Joints

Studies have shown that CBD oil for inflammation can help treat the pain but can it truly get to the source? Can it help cure inflammation rather than just numb the pain? Recent tests have found that not only does the oils help reduce the effects of inflammation but it can get to the source directly.

A 2017 study examined the effects of it on male rats with osteoarthritis, the most common form of arthritis. After just two weeks, the study found that acute inflammation of the joints was reduced by local CBD treatment applied to the area. The study also found that it also helped prevent the development of nerve damage and joint pain that is common with osteoarthritis.

2. Helps With Swelling

CBD oil not only helps treat chronic joint pain, but it can also decrease the amount of swelling caused by inflammation. In the rat study mentioned previously, researchers noted that not only did the rats’ pain scores decrease, but so did their swelling. This led the researchers to believe that this could also work on humans.

An interesting thing to note from the study was that the rats who received a low dose, didn’t improve their pain scores or reduce swelling. However, it was the rats with higher doses who saw improvements. The rats with higher doses exhibited no obvious side effects despite their higher dosage.

3. Sinus Inflammation

We’ve all had those days where we wish we could just put a vacuum cleaner to our nose to suck out all the nasal congestion. Sinus inflammation can make it difficult to breathe, cause throat and nose pain as well as headaches and just overall sucks. While there’s still no cure for the common cold, a daily routine of CBD use can help prevent one.

CBD activates receptors in your body that can help prevent illness. These receptors, such as the TRPV-1, helps maintain safe body temperatures and influence inflammation. CBD oils can help make sure that your body is doing all that it can to prevent a cold from happening.

Best CBD Oil For Inflammation

The best oil for you is going to be largely dependent on several different things. First and foremost, is this your first foray into the CBD world? If so, you might want to start with a small dosage, that way you can work yourself up.

If you have used these oils before and still aren’t noticing a reduction of inflammation pain, you might want to consider upping your dosage. If you aren’t fond of the idea of applying or ingesting oils, there are many other different forms of CBD you should consider. Gummies, vapes, sprays, and creams are also popular forms of it and popular among people looking to cure inflammation and chronic joint pains.

Why Use This Over Other Treatments?

Drug overdose is the #1 cause of death among Americans under the age of 50. America takes up less than 5% of the global population but uses 80% of the world’s opioids. Since 2016, there has been a nearly 30% increase in opioid overdose deaths in the United States alone.

CBD treatments can be a safe alternative to prescription painkillers which can be addictive and dangerous in certain doses. Research has shown that the most too much oil will do to you, is make you sleepy. Up to 20% of Americans with chronic pain are switching to it over prescription medication and that number is only growing.
